On March 2, 2011, Karen A. Cruise, PhD, passed away at age 72 after a short illness. Dr. Cruise had served on the professional advisory board of CHADD of Greater Baltimore for several years. She served as the chapter coordinator prior to and during her illness. Members of the Baltimore board and her many personal friends treasured her warmth, her commitment, and her companionship.

Through her private practice in psychology in Columbia, Maryland, Dr. Cruise shared her skill and deep caring with children who had cognitive, learning, and emotional challenges, supporting them and their families as they made difficult decisions and gained confidence. Dr. Cruise was a consultant to the Radcliffe Creek School and the Kent School, both located in Chestertown, Maryland. She proctored and mentored many new psychologists as they transitioned into their clinical service.

Dr. Cruise born in Detroit. She held an undergraduate degree from Oakland University and a PhD from Michigan State University. She completed her pre-doctoral training at Harvard University and postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University.

She loved gardening, travel and being in the outdoors, hiking, biking, kayaking, and bird watching. She played piano and guitar and lent her fine singing voice to events with family and friends. Her home was warm and welcoming. Above all, she greeted life with a smile, boundless enthusiasm and interest in all that surrounded her.
