“There were so many good breakout sessions that it was hard
to choose which one to attend, quoted one conference attendee.
The recent increase in adult ADHD diagnosis has necessitated an
expansion of CHADD’s role as information provider and education
source for those who have ADHD. Until recent years, it was believed that
children outgrew ADHD in adolescence. However, it is now known that many
symptoms continue into adulthood. If the disorder goes undiagnosed or
untreated during adulthood, individuals may have wrestler Matt Morgan,
Sir Richard Branson, James Carville, Terry Bradshaw and Howie Mandel are
among those who have ADHD.
“Growing up with undiagnosed ADHD can have devastating effects,
with adults often thinking of themselves as "lazy," "crazy," or
"stupid.", quoted CHADD Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ruth Hughes.
“As a result, proper diagnosis can be profoundly healing, putting
present difficulties into perspective and making sense of lifelong
symptoms.” Hughes continued.
In keeping
with their mission to help educate adult ADHD patients,
CHADD presented a new stage performance called “Now
What?!” by the creators of ADD & Loving IT?! the
very popular and groundbreaking PBS film about ADHD. The interactive and
hilarious stage performance at the University of Maryland’s
Clarice Smith Center in College Park, MD on June 12th featured
performances by Rick Green and Patrick McKenna, two renowned Canadian
comedians and stars of ADD & Loving It?! and were accompanied
on stage by ADHD Expert Dr. Umesh Jain.
