Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder estimated to affect approximately 2.5% of children and adults worldwide. The disorder is characterized by the inability to pay attention to stimuli for prolonged periods of time, along with hyperactive and impulsive behavior. While there is now extensive neuroscience literature focusing on ADHD, the biological mechanisms underpinning its genesis and development are still poorly understood.
