The LATE Study: Labels and Time of Diagnosis in Women’s Experiences of ADHD
My name is Prentice Fairbrother, and I am a doctoral student at The Wright Institute’s Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. I am currently seeking participants for my dissertation titled “When Labels Come Too Late: Analyzing the Relationship Between Time of Diagnosis and Internalized Shame in Women with ADHD.” While more people are recognizing ADHD in women, many are still diagnosed much later in life than men, potentially missing access to early support. This quantitative study seeks to better understand how the timing of an ADHD diagnosis may relate to internalized shame in adult women. Women with and without an ADHD diagnosis are invited to participate, as this study will include a control group to help learn more about shame in women generally.
This study involves completing a 5-10-minute anonymous and confidential survey using the HIPPA-compliant survey platform Qualtrics. Participation is voluntary and participants may end their involvement at any point. Whether you’ve been diagnosed with ADHD or have never been diagnosed, you may be eligible to participate in a brief, confidential survey exploring women’s mental health and experiences.
Who can join?
Seeking individuals who:
a) Are between ages 18 and 50
b) Identify as a woman
c) Are fluent in English
d) Live in the United States
e) Have received an ADHD diagnosis from a licensed professional
f) Do not have ADHD and do not believe they have ADHD (serving as a comparison group).
Help us better understand women’s experiences with mental health, diagnosis, and shame!
For every 100 participants $50 will be donated to one of the following charities. Upon completion of the survey participants can vote for their preference.
