Black, Hispanic, Asian children less likely to be diagnosed, treated for ADHD
Black, Hispanic and Asian children with ADHD are significantly less likely to be accurately diagnosed and treated for the disorder compared to their White peers, a study published Monday by JAMA Network Open found. Among more than 230,000 children included in the analysis, 5% had ADHD, or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, a neurodevelopmental condition that can lead to learning and behavior problems, with most diagnosed around age 12.
Strep Throat Doesn’t Worsen Tourette But May Affect ADHD: Study
Among all the children, more than 300 had a worsening of symptoms during the study, but there was no association between strep exposure and worsening of tics or OCD symptoms. However, there was an association between strep exposure and an approximately 20% increase in ADHD symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsiveness, according to the study. The findings were published Feb. 10 in the online issue of the journal Neurology.

Corium (NSDQ:CORI) announced today that it received FDA approval for its once-daily Azstarys oral capsule for treating ADHD symptoms. Boston-based Corium touts its Azstarys (serdexmethylphenidate [SDX] and dexmethylphenidate [d-MPH]) drug as the first and only product containing a d-MPH oral prodrug for treating ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) symptoms in patients aged six years and older, according to a news release.
