4 lesser-known signs you may have ADHD as an adult
The condition can look different in adults than in children. Here are some symptoms that can be easy to miss.
How Does ADHD Affect Mortality Risk? Evidence Adds Up
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is linked to a 71% higher risk for all-cause mortality than in people without the condition, but medication may lower that risk, a new meta-analysis showed. In an analysis of nearly 16 million people, researchers found that ADHD was associated with an 89% increased risk for death from suicide and a 55% higher risk for mortality from unintentional or intentional injury.
Major changes discovered in medical profiles of adults diagnosed with autism since 2010
The medical profiles of adults diagnosed with autism have changed since 2010, finds a study of medical records in the U.K. and Sweden, published in the online journal BMJ Mental Health. There's been a pronounced shift from a prior diagnosis of epilepsy, psychosis and intellectual disability to ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), anxiety and depression since 2010, the data analysis indicates. And the steepest rise in diagnoses has been among 16–20-year-olds, females and those of white ethnic background.
Wildfire Smoke Exposure During Pregnancy Linked To Autism
[Excerpt] For the new study, researchers tracked autism and ADHD diagnoses among more than 893,000 children covered by Medicaid between 2007 and 2014. The team then used air quality data to estimate exposure of the kids’ mothers to wildfire smoke while they were in the womb. Results showed a link between wildfire smoke and autism, but not ADHD.

Campus Sexual Assault Prevention Is Ignoring One of the Most At-Risk Groups: Women With ADHD
Every fall, campuses enter the Red Zone, the period between move-in and Thanksgiving when half of campus sexual assaults are estimated to occur. Universities respond with consent education, bystander training, and risk-reduction advice: Watch your drink. Stay with friends. Trust your gut. No means no. The problem with the one-size-fits-all PSA-style approach? It assumes everyone can read social cues, recognize danger, assert a boundary, clearly give consent, and act on instinct in the same way. They cannot.
An ADHD diagnosis can be a map to guide a person through challenging territory – not to avoid it altogether
[Excerpt] I am a liaison psychiatrist at the National Medical Center “20 de Noviembre” in Mexico City and a professor of medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. My work deals with how psychiatric diagnoses land in a person’s daily life, including how anxiety and ADHD can mask each other. I sign several of those school and work notes every week. Researchers have started to measure something I see constantly in the clinic: how much room a diagnosis takes up in how a person sees themselves.
