Praise is an effective tool for motivating children, teens, and adults–especially individuals with ADHD and learning disabilities. It is not used enough at home or in our education system, however, research shows that praise is not often used in special education classrooms. It is vital for parents and teachers to give praise to their children and students, to motivate them to repeat good behaviors and to help build their self-confidence and self-esteem. Praising children for what they did well, no matter how big or small, can change their mindset. Children can develop a more positive outlook, viewing their own intelligence and abilities as something that can always improve rather than be stagnant.
