What is the Aim of the Project?
The aim of this project is to investigate the processing of scientific information in adults with ADHD. This will be compared to the processing of scientific information in adults without ADHD. This project is part of Cate Davidson’s Master’s research, supported by the Department of Science Communication at the University of Otago.
What Type of Participants are being sought?
We require 150 adult participants with ADHD. All participants must be proficient in English and have no tertiary degree (BSc or higher) in science. ADHD participants must state that they have received a diagnosis by a physician (i.e., rather than self-diagnosed).
Participants will be required to provide basic demographic data. All personal information for this study will remain confidential.
You are eligible to participate if you are aged 18 or over.
Participants will have the option to go in the draw to win one of two $50USD Amazon gift cards upon completion of this study.
What will Participants be Asked to Do?
Should you agree to take part in this project, you will be asked to answer demographic questions about yourself (age in years, gender, education level, whether they have ADHD, and if they take medication for ADHD), read a short piece of scientific text (>2,000 words each), and answer questions about the text.
Response times will vary, but we anticipate that completing the study should not take more than 30 minutes.
Please be aware that you may decide not to take part in the project without any disadvantage to yourself of any kind.
This study has been approved by the University of Otago Human Ethics Committee. If you have any concerns about the ethical conduct of the research you may contact the Committee through the Human Ethics Committee Administrator (ph +643 479 8256 or email humanethics@otago.ac.nz). Any issues you raise will be treated in confidence and investigated and you will be informed of the outcome.
