These videos were developed by the University of Maryland ADHD Program in partnership with CHADD. They are funded by the Stroud Foundation.
These videos are intended for adolescents and young adults with ADHD, and should, for youths, be viewed and used with adult support. They are not a replacement for therapy. For pre-adolescent children with ADHD, the recommended approach is parent-focused behavioral therapy, which is not addressed here.
The strategies in the videos have different levels of research support for adolescents and young adults with ADHD. Organizational skills, such as How to Use a Calendar System, Prioritizing What’s Important, Creating Daily Routines, Breaking Down Assignments & Tasks, and Creating a Home Workspace, are well-supported. There is research support for cognitive-behavioral strategies such as Tackling Unhelpful Thoughts and How to Manage Emotions, for adults with ADHD, and there is growing research for adolescents. Individuals with ADHD often experience challenges with sleep and communication with parents and peers. Finally, although Behavioral Activation is not an empirically supported treatment for ADHD, it is highly effective for depression, which often co-occurs with ADHD.
